Arts Council Silicon Valley Elects Four New Board Trustees
San Jose, CA, July 19, 2004 – Arts Council Silicon Valley announced the election of four new board trustees this July. The new trustees were elected by the 18-member board and will serve their first one-year term starting this month. Board trustees are responsible for the fiscal oversight and governance of the organization and also assist in fundraising, marketing and advocacy efforts. Each new trustee brings with them a unique set of skills and experiences that complement the existing board.
Newly elected board trustees:
Mickie Anderson lives in Saratoga and brings to the board years of volunteer service on arts boards, including Montalvo and San Jose Cleveland Ballet. She is a speech therapist, teacher of the deaf and an arts therapist.
Ken Jue is a Palo Alto resident with years of sales and marketing experience in the high-tech industry, including engineering and management positions at Fairchild Camera and Instruments, LSI Logic and Hewlett-Packard Corporation. Jue is active in numerous community organizations and currently serves on the Palo Alto Police Department’s Diversity and Race Relations Committee. He was named 1994 Volunteer of the Year by the Asian Law Alliance and is a former board member and vice president of the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project.
Nancy Madok is a resident of San Jose and is the new Junior League representative on the Arts Council board. Madok has been active in Junior League since 1997 and just completed a term as chairperson for the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara. She teaches cooking classes and has held a variety of positions in hotel and fine restaurant management.
Kenneth Oberman lives in San Jose and is the director of OEM sales for Advanced Micro Devices in Sunnyvale. Oberman brings to the organization years of sales and business development experience and links to the valley’s business sector. As a former musician, Oberman is especially concerned about arts education for children.
“The Arts Council is fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group of new board trustees,” said Bruce W. Davis, executive director of Arts Council Silicon Valley. “The leadership experience demonstrated by these individuals will definitely enhance the board and the Arts Council.”
Incorporated in 1983, Arts Council Silicon Valley is a regional, independent arts agency providing funding and advocacy support, as well as fundraising and marketing services, to the region’s arts organizations and artists. As the official state/local partner with the California Arts Council and the County of Santa Clara, Arts Council Silicon Valley is now the largest nonprofit arts council in the state. Over the past 13 years, the Arts Council has distributed $7.0 million to local arts and cultural organizations, individual artists, schools and community groups.
