Tech4Audience Grants Program

We are pleased to announce Tech4Audience, a pilot grants program funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. This program provides support to San Jose-based arts and cultural organizations with budgets under $2 million. Cash awards of $5000 were granted to implement technology-driven audience development strategies that will maintain, sustain, and enhance San Jose as the arts and cultural hub of our region.

2011 Tech4Audience Grantees and their projects

• Abhinaya Dance Company – Working with website specialist to implement new strategies that incorporate the Internet into programs and operations
   
• Children’s Musical Theater San Jose – Creating a series of marketing videos to appeal to the social media generation, and to attract new participants, patrons, and donors
   
• San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art – Introducing mobile technology and evaluating its effect on membership numbers and income, as well as on gallery experience
   
• San Jose Jazz – Live video screening from the Main Stage at the San Jose Jazz Festival, to engage viewers and increase participation in a unique and current way
   
• San Jose Taiko – Incorporating social media tools like U-Stream and mobile technologies into existing online media strategies, to deepen engagement of supporters and to cultivate new audiences
   
• South Bay Guitar Society – Developing closer audience and donor ties using email marketing, event promotion, audience feedback, donor manage, video and mobile integration

In addition to their cash awards funded by the Knight Foundation, participants received software packages of their choice, provided by Adobe Foundation.
