A Message from Nancy Glaze, Executive Director

Make a Resolution for the Arts

Happy 2012 to all! I love the start of a New Year and making resolutions. I’m all about new beginnings! Here’s my top three…

Resolution #1 is to attend more arts events. It’s the fuel that keeps me excited about the work I do. I’m reminded to keep this resolution every time I see a new LiveSV.com “Discover the Unexpected” ad on a bus or train or on a billboard on my way to work. How exciting for the Arts Council to be part of this campaign!

Resolution #2 is to engage more with social media. My communications team often reminds me of my important role in growing our social media presence. So, I plan on telling ALL my friends about our campaign to Like Us on Facebook and enter our sweepstakes to win two tickets to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Totem” – doesn’t that also tie in to attending more arts events in 2012?!

Resolution #3 now seriously… help the Arts Council forge new paths in arts philanthropy and address the increasing gap in nurturing and supporting our artists and arts organizations. As with all new ventures, forging new paths does not always feel comfortable or easy. Like any good New Year’s resolution, this means we will need to push the boundaries of what is possible and continuously test our resolve and commitment to change.

ONLINE APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE! | FOR 2011-2012 GRANTS PROGRAMS
The Arts Council is excited to unveil our new online applications for Regional Arts Fund (RAF) and Community Arts Fund (CAF). After months of planning and the last three weeks of testing and revising, we have finally gone live with the Common Grant Application!

We began evaluating our grantee process 18 months ago and after careful evaluation of our granting programs, two words kept coming up: "simplify" and "online." Thus began our quest to find a tool that would make things easier for everybody.

Common Grant Application, like the common college application, is meant to be used by many grantmakers. However, despite it being "one size fits all," we selected the elements that are applicable to our grant programs and tailored ourselves. For applicants, there is no software to install - all you need is a browser. Applications can be saved and accessed any time. In addition, information can be re-used and doesn't need to be re-entered every time you apply (unless there's of change, of course). Best of all, the new applications process removes the hands-on production process, so there is no need to copy, collate, paper-clip, etc.

Panelists can evaluate the applications at any time and watch work samples in advance of the review session.

We've worked with Common Grant Application for nearly a year, and are liking it more and more. It is user-friendly, flexible, adaptable, and economical. And it definitely will make things easier for everybody.
